The exercise book is not evil — it is complete until you hire a second attendant, open a second branch, or a regular customer disputes a balance.
Week 0 — prepare
- List your top 20 services and current prices
- Export repeat customers (name + phone minimum)
- Decide who is admin vs counter staff
Week 1 — parallel run
- New walk-ins go through POS only
- Keep the notebook as backup — do not dual-enter forever
- End each day comparing POS total to cash in drawer
Week 2 — cut over
- Import customers and services (CSV supported)
- Retire the notebook for new orders
- Turn on SMS or receipt printing if you use them
Common pitfalls
- Skipping statuses — staff jump straight to "ready" and rack chaos returns
- Owner-only login — give attendants scoped POS access
- No promised dates — delivery promises slip without a field on the order
